The JP ES 038 keeps the Panigale 1199 from reporting a rear lighting failure once the standard tail unit has been taken off or swapped for something that draws far less.

A Hundred and Eighty-Eight Kilograms
Wet, which was class leading in 2012 and achieved largely by deleting the frame. Nothing else was close at the time.
A Sealed Plug, Not a Bodge
The resistance sits inside a potted body with the correct connector moulded on. There is no heatshrink, no crimp under the seat and nothing that vibrates apart over a season.
Why Ducati Monitors It
Rear lighting is a safety item and the legislation behind it expects a failure to be reported to the rider. The monitoring circuit is doing exactly what it was designed to do.
What Triggers the Warning
The controller measures current through the rear lighting circuit and expects a figure consistent with the standard unit. Anything substantially lower reads as a failed lamp and lights the panel.
Current, Not Light
The monitoring circuit has no idea whether the lamp is working. It measures how much current the circuit draws and infers the rest, which is why a working LED unit still trips it.
Bag the Original
The standard tail unit, its fasteners and its connector belong together in a labelled bag for the inspection or the sale that eventually needs them.
A Clean Dashboard
One live warning hides the next one behind it. Clearing this circuit means the panel still means something when a genuine fault appears at speed.
Ten Minutes, Then Reassembly
The connector swap itself is trivial. What takes the time is whatever holds the seat unit on, which varies from a key to half a dozen fasteners depending on the model. Nothing about the job requires the subframe or the shock to be disturbed.
