Semi-Active on a Naked Bike
The Factory carried electronically managed Öhlins that read the inertial platform and adjusted continuously. On a short-wheelbase motorcycle with no fairing and 175 hp, the chassis loads and unloads faster than a fixed setting can follow.
Modes Changed on the Move
Suspension behaviour, engine map and traction level are all reached from this block while riding. On a Factory those settings genuinely change between a motorway section and a mountain road, and the rider does it without stopping.
The Superbike Underneath
Same frame, same engine architecture, same electronics as the RSV4, with bars instead of clip-ons and 77 cc more. Aprilia's naked bike has always been closer to its superbike than any rival's equivalent.
The Revised Layout
This is the post-2017 control block. Earlier Tuonos take the plain AP009 version, and the difference is in the mounting and the internal arrangement rather than anything visible from a photograph.
The Component That Was Not Upgraded
Öhlins, forged wheels, Brembo, a full electronics suite. The switchgear came off the same line as the base bike's, which on a motorcycle costing what a Factory costs is the obvious remaining candidate.
Black or Titanium
Converted into the surface rather than applied over it. Against gold suspension, titanium is the option that acknowledges it without pretending to be it.
Sealed Elements, Original Plug
Enclosed contacts inside the machined body, terminating in Aprilia's own connector. Nothing to solder, nothing to code and nothing to explain to a workshop afterwards.
A Steering Damper That Earns It
Wide bars, a short wheelbase and a light front end are a combination that needs damping, and Aprilia specified an Öhlins unit rather than offering one. It sits directly below the controls and sets the tone for what the rest of the cockpit ought to look like.
