Inputs to the Dashboard
Everything this block sends goes to the I2M system. Ducati's own electronics are not involved at any point, which is precisely what the installation is for.
Why Not Use the Factory Logger
The S already records channels to a memory key. It records what Ducati chose, at Ducati's rate, and a team wanting different channels or a faster rate has no way to ask for them.
Common in Italian Paddocks
I2M's displays turn up throughout national and club racing there because they log properly at a price a privateer can reach. They are bought for capability rather than for a badge.
Beacon or Satellite
Lap timing comes from a trackside beacon or from GPS, and the manual marker on this block covers the sessions where neither is available or trusted.
Sealed to Military Standard
Elements enclosed inside the machined body. Damp overnight in a van does more to a clipped moulded assembly than any amount of riding in the rain.
Black Anodised
Converted into the surface. On a competition bike a finish is judged by whether it survives a pressure washer rather than by how it photographs.
Electronic Öhlins
The S carried Ducati's first electronically adjustable suspension on a superbike. Race builds usually replace it with conventional cartridges, because a team prefers to control damping directly.
Forged Marchesini Wheels
Fitted as standard on the S, which is one fewer thing to buy for a race build. They remove rotating mass at the point where it costs the most.
Stripped Repeatedly
Cut from one block, so removal and refitting through a season leaves it exactly as tight as it began. Moulded housings with clips do not manage that.
