The Complete Diagnosis
Before ordering anything, check whether the stand is straight, whether the mechanism is packed and whether the connector is corroded. Two of those cost nothing to fix and one usually works.
What a Failing Switch Costs
Diagnosing an intermittent interlock is among the least rewarding jobs on a motorcycle, because the fault refuses to appear in a workshop and returns the moment the bike is loaded and moving.
Why the Switch Is Where It Is
It has to sense the stand, so it lives at the lowest and dirtiest point on the motorcycle, in the spray from the front wheel and within reach of every pressure washer ever aimed at a swingarm. No manufacturer has found a better answer and Ducati is not alone in accepting the compromise.
Nothing Is Cut
The eliminator plugs into the connector the switch used, so the loom stays exactly as Ducati built it. That is what makes refitting the standard switch a two-minute job rather than a wiring repair somebody has to unpick later.
The Interlock Is Not Only the Stand
Ducati's starting logic combines the side stand, the clutch and the gear position sensor, and the controller decides from all three. Answering the stand input changes one term in that decision and leaves the others exactly as they were, which is why the clutch still has to be pulled in to start the engine.
