The 2020 Revision
Yamaha reworked the cylinder head, the electronics and the aerodynamics while keeping the crossplane engine. It is the version most owners take to circuits.
Where the Wrist Ends Up
At full throttle the standard grip has usually rolled the wrist past comfortable. A shorter sweep leaves it in a position the arm can hold through a corner exit.
Learning It Takes One Session
The first few corners feel abrupt because the hand is still travelling the old distance. By the end of an afternoon the new sweep is the one the wrist expects.
Not for Every Bike in the Garage
A commuter gains nothing here. The part earns its place on a machine ridden hard, where the throttle is worked rather than held.

Mapping Is a Different Question
A flashed controller changes what the engine does for a given opening. This assembly changes how far the hand travels to reach that opening. Both get described as sharpening the throttle, which is why they are confused, and fitting both is common.
Three Hundred Grams
The assembly weighs close enough to the plastic one that nobody will feel a difference on the bar. This is not a weight-saving part and the catalogue does not pretend otherwise.
