A Hundred and Sixty Horsepower

Plugged Straight In
Ducati's own connector with no adapters, reached while the tail unit is already apart. The exchange takes a minute.
Where the Lamp Sits
Moulded into the plate bracket on most of the range, which is why removing the bracket removes the lamp and there is no separate part to keep.
The Circuit Stays Live
Removing the lamp does not de-energise anything. The controller keeps testing the loop and keeps reporting what it finds.
A Modification With a Long History
Riders have been shortening plate hangers for as long as motorcycles have had them, and manufacturers have been monitoring lighting circuits for nearly as long. The two habits have never sat comfortably together.

A stored lighting code is visible to any dealer. Answering the circuit properly avoids an awkward conversation about what else has been changed.
A Modification With No Downside
On a motorcycle that is not going to carry a plate, answering the circuit costs almost nothing and removes a permanent irritation.
The Load It Restores
The eliminator presents the current draw the circuit expects, potted into a body with Ducati's own connector moulded onto it. The controller reads a normal load, reports nothing and stores nothing, which means a later diagnostic session shows a genuine history rather than a warning somebody learned to ignore.
Two Circuits, Two Parts
Owners fitting a full rear conversion frequently need the plate lamp answered and the tail light answered, and those are separate connectors with separate part numbers. Ordering one and discovering the panel is still lit is the commonest disappointment in this corner of the catalogue.
