The JP ESR 006 is what stops the Streetfighter V4S reporting a steering damper fault after the electronic unit has come off in favour of one with fixed valving.

The Suspension Still Comes Off
A committed race build replaces even semi-active Öhlins with mechanical units, because repeatability beats adaptability once the surface is known.
Why It Gets Replaced
Riders converting to a conventional damper want a single, known setting rather than a speed-dependent curve. On a circuit that predictability is the entire argument.
Ducati's Own Connector
The eliminator plugs into the harness where the damper's solenoid was. Nothing is cut, stripped or joined, so refitting the original unit is a two-minute job.
Access
The damper sits above the top yoke or alongside the headstock depending on the model, and reaching its connector generally means one fairing panel rather than the whole front end.
Speed-Dependent Damping
Light at walking pace so the bars turn easily, progressively firmer as speed rises. That is the whole of what the electronics were doing on the original unit.
Why Riders Convert
A fixed setting they chose beats a curve somebody else chose, at least on a circuit where the speeds and the surface are known in advance.
Why It Is Removed
Cost of replacement after a crash, or a rider who wants one known setting rather than a speed-dependent curve they cannot adjust themselves.
What a Mechanical Damper Buys Instead
One setting the rider chose, unchanging regardless of speed, with an adjuster that can be reached in the pit lane. On a circuit where the speeds are known and the surface is consistent, predictability beats adaptation, which is the entire case for the conversion.
