Part of the Öhlins System
The Factory's damper is managed by the same module that controls the forks and the shock, varying resistance with speed and lean angle. It is not a standalone component.
Which Is Why It Cannot Be Unplugged
The module checks the actuator at every start and treats its absence as a failure. The warning appears on the panel and stays there.
Answered Properly
This unit supplies the load the module expects, so the check passes and no fault is stored for a scrutineer or a dealer to find.

Two Hundred and Seventeen Horsepower
Out of a bumpy corner with the front light, the damper is what decides whether the bike settles or starts a conversation. It matters more here than on almost anything else.
The Rest of the System
Forks, shock and control unit are separate part numbers. A full conversion needs the kit; this covers the damper alone.
Keep the Original
The standard unit is expensive and sells readily. Nothing in this conversion damages it or prevents it going back.
Nothing Spliced
Aprilia's own connector with no adapters and nothing cut in the loom.
Reversible
Refit the standard damper, unplug the eliminator and the electronic control behaves as before.
Competition Use
On a registered motorcycle the variable damper is doing useful work at every speed.
Rebuildable
A competition damper comes apart, gets new seals and oil, and goes back to a known specification. An electronic unit is replaced rather than serviced, which is acceptable on a road bike and awkward on one used every other weekend.
