DescriptionThe whole story▼
The rear brake pedal is one of the few controls on a motocross bike that riders set to their own body, and on a KTM 250 SX it pays to get it right. Set too high, it lets the right boot rest on it without the rider noticing; set too low, every use of the rear brake becomes a stretch. Behind the pedal sits the disc, and Accossato lists its DK018 for the 250 SX from 1993 to 2026, a fixed rear disc made in one piece of steel and part of the company's off-road range.
Key Features
- Rear disc for the KTM 250 SX, 1993 to 2026
- Fixed one-piece off-road disc
- Steel-made, as specified by Accossato
- 220 mm outer, 110 mm inner diameter, 4 mm thick
- Replaces the original rear disc
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- No German ABE documented; motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
The DK018 is a one-piece disc: the pads grip the same steel part that bolts to the hub, with no carrier or rivets in between. Accossato gives a diameter of 220 mm, a centre opening of 110 mm and a thickness of 4 mm, and prints the minimum working thickness on the disc so wear can be checked with a micrometer. Accossato, today based in Villastellone near Turin, says its disc expertise was gained in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
Where the Pedal Sits
Stand on the pegs in your riding boots, in the attack position, and look at where the pedal is. Its tip should sit just below the sole of your boot, so that a small movement of the ankle brings it into play while your foot can rest on the peg without touching it. On a rough track a pedal set too high gets pressed over the bumps without the rider meaning to.
A pedal pressed without intent shows itself on the rear disc. The pads stay in light contact lap after lap, the disc heats up and takes on a blue or golden tint, the pads glaze, and the rear brake feels weak just when it is needed. After a ride, lift the rear wheel and spin it: it should turn freely. If it does not, check the pedal free play and the pads before you look any further. Constant dragging also wears the disc faster, so measure it more often if you find signs of it.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK018 for the KTM 250 SX from 1993 to 2026 as a replacement for the original rear disc. At the front it names the DK017 and the DK259 for 1993 to 2023. After fitting the DK018, pump the pedal until it is firm, check that the rear wheel of the 250 SX still turns freely, and adjust the pedal height to suit your boots.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for the DK018 and no type approval. It is a part for motocross, and the 250 SX is a motocross bike without road registration.
