DescriptionThe whole story

The Panigale V4 puts more load through its front axle than almost anything else Ducati has built. Trail-braking a 1,103 cc V4 from top speed into a second-gear corner asks the pad to hold a stable friction level while the disc glows, and to give the rider a lever that still says something at the end of a twenty-minute session. The ZCOO B005 in EX Race compound is built for exactly that window: a ceramic-sintered mixture whose braking force rises in proportion to lever pressure rather than snapping in, carried on the largest backing plate in the ZCOO range at 102.2 mm.

Key Features

  • Fits the Brembo monobloc caliper of the Panigale V4 without shims or spacers - 102.2 x 42.0 mm friction face, 8.05 mm total thickness
  • Ceramic-sintered EX Race compound: force builds proportionally with lever pressure, so the release point into the apex stays readable
  • Anti-fade behaviour is maintained beyond 600 degrees Celsius, the range a V4 front end reaches during repeated hard braking
  • Laser-cut, dimensionally stable backing plate resists deformation when the caliper spreads under peak pressure
  • Deliberately gentle on the rotor - a Panigale front disc costs a multiple of a pad set, and the EX compound is the softer of ZCOO's two ceramic mixtures
  • One pack covers one caliper; the Panigale V4 has two front discs, so a complete front-axle change takes two packs

Construction and Material Quality

ZCOO pads are made by Okada Corporation in Japan. The friction material is sintered onto a laser-cut metal backing plate using a bonding process developed to remove the two classic weaknesses of sintered pads: fade at the top of the temperature range and separation of the friction layer from the plate. On the B005 the plate carries the friction material across a single long face rather than several small pucks, which spreads the heat entering the pad over a wider area and keeps the pressure distribution against the disc more even as the material wears down.

Performance and Feel

Where the EX Race compound earns its place on a Panigale is the second half of a session. A pad that bites hard when cold and then goes wooden forces the rider to move the braking marker earlier lap after lap. The EX mixture is formulated for a flat friction curve instead: the initial bite is deliberately not the most aggressive in the ZCOO range, and in exchange the lever pressure needed for a given deceleration barely moves as heat builds. ZCOO also forms a thin ceramic layer on the rotor surface in use, which is why the compound wears discs noticeably less than a conventional sintered race pad.

Fitment and Compatibility

Listed by ZCOO for the Ducati Panigale V4 from model year 2018 through 2024 with the 1,103 cc engine. The B005 shape is specific to the Brembo monobloc caliper family; before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 102.2 mm length and 42.0 mm height. Front axle only - ZCOO does not list a rear pad under this reference.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
