List everything that changes how a Brutale RR goes on a public road, ordered by how much it changes, and the air filter will not be near the top. Tyres, tyre pressures, suspension settings, gearing, chain condition and the rider all sit above it, most by a wide margin. That is where this part honestly ranks, and R189S F1-85-SBK is better argued from that position than around it.
Key Features
- WorldSBK-specification assembly on a carbon fibre frame, supplied ready to fit
- 85 µm racing weave rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure in the Sprint Filter range
- Single layer of woven polyester, used dry — never oiled when new, never treated after washing
- Around double the filtering surface of other performance filters
- Series airbox, series ducting, series mapping: nothing has to be altered
- Regenerated with compressed air instead of replaced, with two years of warranty
Everything that comes above it
What the engine makes is settled by displacement, valve timing, throttle area and the calibration, and no cloth in the airbox lifts any of those. Ahead of the element the intake ducting is exactly what the factory fitted; behind it the throttle butterflies are the far narrower gate. A filter can only ever hand back a portion of what it costs, and what it costs is modest to begin with. So the accurate summary is the deflating one: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably quicker, and nothing on this page should be read as promising otherwise.
The list it does head
There is a second list, and on that one the element comes first. It is the only part of the intake tract an owner will ever have in their hands. The ducting, the airbox shell and the throttle bodies are fastened once during assembly and stay there; the element comes out whenever its owner decides it should. That makes the state of the intake a decision rather than an assumption — and across a model catalogued from 2019 through to 2026, which is a long time for one machine to breathe unexamined, having that decision available is not nothing.
Care and cleaning
Air, in one direction only: at the clean side, blowing outward, so that whatever the weave stopped leaves along the path it arrived on. That covers ordinary servicing. Gritty conditions occasionally leave deposits a compressor will not shift, and those come out in tepid water with a little mild detergent, rinsed until the water is clear. Drying is unhurried and passive — no blower, no radiator, no flame, since heat is the one thing this material will not take. R189S F1-85-SBK is refitted dry and bare, with nothing sprayed onto it. Instructions sit in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified for the airbox of the MV Agusta Brutale RR 1000 built between 2019 and 2026. The fitment list runs to eight machines in all: the Brutale Oro, the Rush from 2020, and the faired F4, F4R, F4RR, F4RC and F4RC LH.
