Yamaha built the MT-10 around the crossplane four and the airbox of the R1, retuned to pull from low revs on the road instead of chasing a rev ceiling. The catalogue keeps them on one line because the housing is the same, and it also records where they separate: this MT-10 generation stops at 2021, while the R1 that shares the box carries on to 2026. For a service part that gap is normally bad news for the older machine. Here it works the other way round.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in a single dry layer, never oiled — nothing in the medium can travel downstream onto the intake sensors
- 80 µm filtration at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the P08 being Sprint Filter's road and track medium
- Polyester thread from ø 22 microns; the 80 µm figure describes the weave, not the fibre
- Around twice the working cloth of a typical performance element, folded into the standard frame
- Sits where the paper panel sat: series airbox, factory ducting, no remap, nothing modified
- Cleaned and refitted rather than replaced, specified for the life of the motorcycle, two-year guarantee
A service part kept current by another motorcycle
Running a model that is no longer built usually means watching its consumables thin out. The part number stays in the system; the shelves do not. This element is held open from the other end of its own fitment list, because the same housing sits in a superbike still in production, so the panel that fits a 2016 MT-10 is a current part rather than old stock running down. A washable element then removes the question altogether: the one already in the airbox is cleaned and put back, and the next service depends on a compressed-air line, not on anyone's stock.
What it changes, and what it does not
Plainly: an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably more powerful, and on an engine of this size that is the claim most worth refusing. Ducting, airbox volume, throttle bodies and fuelling were signed off together with a filter in the middle of them, and swapping the element does not reopen that work. What it does is smaller and lasts longer. Intake restriction starts lower and stays close to where it started, because a woven element is returned to its condition by cleaning instead of drifting one way until it is binned. A paper panel is at its best on the day it goes in and at its worst on the day it comes out.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air is the routine for the PM150S: held against the clean face and blown outward, so the dirt leaves the way it arrived. After a wet or gritty spell, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild washing-up detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it in moving air and nothing else — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, since heat is what ruins polyester — and refit it dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Yamaha MT-10 built from 2016 to 2021. Two motorcycles are covered in total; the other is the Yamaha YZF R1 - R1M of 2015 to 2026, which uses the same housing. Both are listed in the Fitment tab.
