DescriptionThe whole story▼
Unlock genuine race-derived fork performance on your Kawasaki Ninja 400 with the K-Tech 20IDS Open Cartridge Kit. Engineered around K-Tech's 20 mm Independent Damping System, this cartridge upgrade replaces the stock internals with fully adjustable, hard-anodised components machined from aerospace-grade aluminium — delivering the kind of precise chassis feedback that separates a well-sorted track weapon from a standard road bike.
Key Features
- 20 mm Independent Damping System (20IDS) — compression and rebound circuits are tuned entirely independently for exact, repeatable damping character
- 30 clicks of independent compression adjustment and 30 clicks of independent rebound adjustment give a vast tuning range across track sessions and road riding
- 18 mm preload adjustment allows spring load to be set precisely to rider weight and riding style without disassembly
- Increased travel compared to the original Ninja 400 cartridge, recovering headroom lost through aftermarket suspension setup
- All components hard-anodised and super-finished for exceptional surface durability and long service life under repeated high-load cycling
- Aerospace-aluminium construction keeps unsprung mass to a minimum while maintaining the structural rigidity demanded at track pace
Race-Ready Adjustability
The 20IDS architecture separates the compression and rebound damping circuits within the same 20 mm cartridge body, meaning a change to one characteristic has no influence on the other. For track riders chasing consistent lap times, this translates directly into the ability to dial out corner-entry push or exit instability without disturbing the rebound calibration built up over a session. Suggested baseline settings are 16 clicks from closed on compression, 18 clicks from closed on rebound, and 18 mm of preload — a considered starting point that suits the stock Ninja 400 geometry before individual refinement begins.
Build Quality
K-Tech manufactures the 20IDS cartridge from aircraft-grade aluminium throughout, then hard-anodises every surface before applying a super-finish process. The result is a component that resists wear, corrosion and the thermal cycling inherent in sustained track use far better than standard OEM cartridge internals. The 759 mm overall length and 120 mm stroke are matched precisely to the Ninja 400 fork tube dimensions, and the 10 mm external diameter rod is held to the tight tolerances K-Tech's motorsport pedigree demands.
Installation Note
K-Tech recommends installation by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure correct fitment, fluid fill to the specified 190 mm oil-air gap, and safe torque of all fasteners. Compatible springs from the 35-340 series must be ordered separately — they are not included with this cartridge kit.
Fitment & Compatibility
This kit is designed exclusively for the Kawasaki Ninja 400, covering all model years from 2018 through to 2023. It fits the standard original-equipment fork with no modification to the fork tubes or lower legs required.
