Five point seven kilograms. The standard ZZR1400 exhaust weighs 14.4 kg — the heaviest silencer set in this whole batch — and this titanium pair brings it down to 8.7 kg. On a hyperbike already carrying 268 kg, that is the single cheapest weight reduction available.

Where the Weight Comes From

Kawasaki built the ZZR1400's exhaust to silence a 1,441 cc four at full throttle and to pass European noise regulation while doing it. That means two large double-skinned steel cans and a heavy collector. Replacing the cans with titanium and carbon removes almost six kilograms without touching anything upstream — the largest saving-to-effort ratio on the bike.

The torque gain at 3,050 rpm is the number a ZZR owner will actually notice. This engine is ridden at low revs in top gear far more often than at the redline, and three newton metres just above idle is felt every time the throttle opens.

One Approval Condition

Akrapovic states that the EC type approval is only valid when the catalytic converter is installed. Remove the converter and the paperwork no longer covers the system. That is worth knowing before any further modification.

One Motorcycle, Two Names

ZZR1400 and ZX-14R are the same machine. Kawasaki sells it as the ZZR1400 in Europe and as the Ninja ZX-14R in North America, and the registration document decides which name is on your papers. The exhaust, the mounting and the measurements are identical, which is why both appear in the fitment here.

Akrapovic ran this system on a 2016 example, in the middle of the years covered. Installation is 30 minutes, and the standard silencer can be refitted for a sale — worth remembering on a motorcycle that holds its value the way this one does.

S-K14SO6-HZAAT covers the Kawasaki ZZR1400, the ZZR1400 ABS and the ZX-14R from model year 2012 through 2020. Both silencers are supplied.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here — valid, as noted above, with the catalytic converter in place. Under that condition the system is a legal replacement for road use in the European Union.
