DescriptionThe whole story▼
A big single has strong engine braking, and on the 690 Duke R that is part of the fun: close the throttle and the bike slows noticeably before you touch a brake. Drop a gear or two quickly on the way into a bend, though, and the rear tyre suddenly has to spin the engine up to a much higher speed. The left hand is what smooths it out. Accossato's ESA090 gives the 690 Duke R of 2014 to 2019 a machined clutch lever with adjustable reach, so every release after a downshift can be as gradual as you want.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the KTM 690 Duke R, listed 2014 to 2019
- Fits in place of the original lever at the clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable to hand size and gloves
- Three blade lengths, standard approx. 138 mm
- Seven anodised blade colours, hub always black
- Milled from aluminium on CNC machines
- No folding joint, one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
Letting a clutch out gradually is a job for a lever that does not flex. The ESA090 is made by CNC machining from aluminium and finished by anodising, with a black hub and a blade in one of seven colours, and the hub is where the pivot and the adjustment for the reach are found. Its blade has no hinge and stays rigid over its full length: as you ease your fingers open, the blade follows them evenly, with no joint that could give, catch or let the lever jump forward as the clutch springs push against it. On the 690 Duke R, a controlled release is then down to your hand alone.
Downshifts on a Big Single
Every downshift asks the engine to spin faster to match the speed of the rear wheel. If the clutch bites instantly, the rear tyre has to force that change, and with the heavy compression of a large single it can chatter, hop or step slightly out of line, which unsettles the bike just as you turn in. Letting the lever out over a short, deliberate moment spreads the change: the revs rise, the tyre keeps rolling at road speed and the chassis stays calm. Many riders also add a brief blip of the throttle with the right hand while braking to make the match smoother still. For this, the lever must be close enough to pull in quickly and let out with control without shifting your grip on the bar, which on the 690 Duke R often means bringing it a little nearer to the grip than the stock position. The short blade suits a quick two-finger pull; the standard blade gives a little more leverage for a steadier release. Practise on a quiet road, one gear at a time, until the release feels like part of the downshift rather than a separate step.
Fitment and Compatibility
Coverage for the 690 Duke R runs from 2014 to 2019, with the ESA090 replacing the stock lever at KTM's clutch mounting. The EDF011 brake lever is Accossato's partner part for the same bike and the same years.
Road Approval
Since a German ABE has not been documented for this lever, we sell it for circuit riding.
