The XDiavel is the Ducati that went furthest from Borgo Panigale orthodoxy — forward controls, a belt final drive, and an engine retuned to pull from just above idle. The belt is the detail worth dwelling on: Ducati chose it because it is quiet and needs almost no attention, which tells you the bike was designed for owners who want to ride rather than service. A low-revving engine has nowhere to hide

The XDiavel makes its torque low, and low-rev work is transient work — the engine asking for a step change in airflow every time you roll the throttle open from walking pace. Because the pressure drop across a filter rises with flow, a partly loaded element penalises exactly that moment. A high-revving sports engine can mask the loss in the rush at the top; this one cannot, and the rider experiences it as a bike that has become slightly less effortless.

Nine model years, one part

The XDiavel ran from 2016 to 2024 with the same airbox throughout, and PM127S also covers the Diavel 1260, both Multistrada generations, the Panigale family and the Scrambler 1100 — twenty Ducati models. That breadth is why the part stays easy to find years after any single model leaves production, which matters on a bike people keep.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry; there is no oiling step.
