The Valve and Its Circuit
An electrically opened path from airbox to exhaust port, monitored by the controller. The air lowers measured emissions and the monitoring is what causes trouble.
An Open Circuit
Coil resistance goes to infinity when the valve is unplugged. The controller treats that as a failure and warns accordingly.
The Right Answer
This unit supplies the resistance the controller expects, so nothing appears and nothing is stored for later.
KTM's Only Superbike
The RC8 was the factory's single attempt at a full fairing sports bike, and it looked like nothing else on a grid. Nobody has confused one for another motorcycle.
An LC8 V-Twin in a Superbike
Seventy-five degrees, 1195 cc and 175 horsepower. It never won a world championship and it produced one of the better sounding race bikes of its era.
Adjustable Everywhere
Footpegs, bars, seat height and swingarm pivot all move. KTM built the RC8 to be fitted to a rider rather than the other way round.
Most of Them Are Track Bikes Now
Values fell far enough that the RC8 became an affordable route onto a circuit. Very few still carry their emissions hardware.
Before Any Fuelling Work
Air entering after combustion makes gas analysis meaningless, and an RC8 on a dyno is usually there for a reason.
The Cover Completes It
The reed housing stays on the cylinder head until the mechanical half is replaced as well.
Homologation
Removing the system ends road legality in Europe. On a bike that is usually track-only already, that is rarely the deciding factor.
Drawn Rather Than Developed
Kiska styled the RC8 with straight lines and hard angles at a time when every other superbike was rounded. It divided opinion completely and it has aged better than most of the motorcycles that were praised alongside it.
