Nine Hundred and Forty-Seven Cubic Centimetres
KTM took the LC8c out again for 2024, to 947 cc and 123 hp, with a new frame, a longer swingarm and revised electronics. The 990 Duke replaced the 890 rather than sitting above it, and it is a more complete motorcycle in almost every respect.
A Longer Swingarm
The change sounds minor and it altered how the bike puts power down significantly. The 990 is more stable under drive than the 890 without losing the agility that made the middleweight Dukes what they are.
Why Shorten the Throttle
The LC8c responds immediately and a long travel puts a delay between intention and result that the engine does not deserve. Reducing the wrist rotation is among the cheapest changes with a genuinely noticeable effect.
The Standard Cluster Cannot Stay
KTM builds the right-hand controls into the throttle assembly. Restoring the starter and engine stop on an independent bar clamp is a requirement of the conversion rather than an optional refinement.
A New Model
The 990 arrived in 2024 and the aftermarket around it is still forming. Components engineered for the bike rather than adapted from the 890, which differs electrically, are the ones worth having while the choice is limited.
Nothing Cut
Pre-wired for KTM's own connector. The riding modes and traction settings continue to work as calibrated, no fault code appears and the motorcycle stays diagnosable inside its warranty period.
Titanium
A single anodised finish, converted into the surface. Against the 990's orange frame and dark bodywork it identifies the component without competing with anything already there.
