DescriptionThe whole story▼
For many children the 65cc class brings a new control. The little bikes they learned on often had automatic clutches, and now there is a lever under the left hand that must be let out gently while the right hand opens the throttle. On a Yamaha YZ65 that lesson tends to include a few stalls, a few lurches and a few slow-motion falls. Accossato's folding C7266 takes the place of the clutch lever on the YZ65 from 2018 to 2022; it is CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075 and has a long blade on a joint that lets it give way.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ65, 2018 to 2022
- Installed at the original clutch perch
- Long blade with space for four fingers, as Accossato describes it
- Anti-break joint gives the blade room to fold forward
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black or blue blade with a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for youth motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato builds the C7266 in two parts from Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, machined from solid on CNC equipment in Italy. The stated aims are strength, low weight and reliability, qualities that count on a bike that will be dropped many times while its rider learns. A dark base stays at the pivot of the perch and holds the joint; the blade, black or blue, is the part that folds. As a clutch lever it is the longer of Accossato's two off-road shapes, designed for four fingers, and how many of them a young rider actually uses is a matter of hand size and habit.
The First Clutch Lever
Many parents teach the clutch on flat grass. Engine running, first gear selected, the rider pulls the lever all the way in, then lets it out slowly until the bike begins to creep, holds it there for a moment and releases the rest while adding a touch of throttle. The spot where the bike starts to move is the friction zone, and learning where it sits in the lever's travel is the whole lesson. Once the YZ65 pulls away cleanly every time, the rider moves on to stopping and starting on a gentle slope, then to slow turns with the clutch slipping.
Until then, expect stalls, and expect the bike to jump forward whenever the lever is released too quickly. Most of the resulting falls happen at walking pace, and the YZ65 often goes down on its left as the rider dabs a foot too late. That is precisely where a solid clutch lever meets the ground or a stone and snaps. The C7266's joint gives the blade a chance of folding forward, so the lesson can continue after a quick look. It does not make every fall harmless, but it can save a trip to the dealer during the weeks when the clutch is still new to the rider.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's application list the C7266 is given for the Yamaha YZ65 from 2018 to 2022, where it fits the original clutch perch. On the brake side, the B8262 folding lever covers the same model years with a wider choice of colours, gold and green included, so a matching pair means black or blue.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE documented for the C7266; it is sold for youth motocross and off-road riding on closed ground.
