DescriptionThe whole story▼

In many youth motocross classes the Honda CRF150R lines up against 85cc two-strokes, and it goes about its job differently. The small Honda four-stroke has its own character, and the young rider on it has to learn clutch work that suits it rather than copying the riders on the two-strokes alongside. Accossato's folding C7101 is listed for the CRF150R across 2007 to 2022. Machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy, it gives the left hand a four-finger blade that can tip forward on its joint when the bike lies down on that side.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the Honda CRF150R, 2007 to 2022
  • Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch perch
  • Long blade with room for four fingers
  • Blade can tip forward on its joint in a fall
  • CNC-machined from Ergal 7075, made in Italy
  • Blade in black or red on a dark base
  • No German ABE documented; for motocross use

Construction and Material Quality

Each C7101 begins as a block of Ergal 7075. Accossato picked this high-strength aluminium alloy because it allows a lever that is strong and dependable without being heavy, and the machining takes place on CNC equipment in Italy. The result is a lever in two parts. The dark base stays on the pivot at the clutch perch; the blade, black or red, is linked to it by the joint that allows it to fold away. The blade is long and drawn for four fingers, which is how Accossato builds its clutch levers.

A Four-Stroke in an 85 Class

An 85cc two-stroke lives at high revs. Its riders slip the clutch out of corners to keep the engine in the narrow band where it pulls hard, and fan it on the way into jumps and up steep faces. A four-stroke 150 delivers its power more evenly and from lower down, and it slows the rear wheel as soon as the throttle closes. Young riders who come to a CRF150R from a two-stroke, or who train alongside two-stroke friends, often over-use the clutch at first, slipping it where the four-stroke would simply pull, and wearing out clutch plates in the process.

Good coaching turns that round, and the lever plays its part: a clutch used less often but more precisely, at the start, in the tightest turns and when the bike bogs down in deep ruts. Those tight turns are also where many youth crashes happen, often a slow tip onto the left as the front tucks in a rut. The C7101's blade can pivot forward on its joint when that happens rather than snapping off at the end, so the young rider has a fair chance of picking up the CRF150R and carrying on with a clutch lever that still works. Not every fall will leave it intact, but it improves the odds for the next corner.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the C7101 for the Honda CRF150R from 2007 to 2022, and it fits the original clutch perch. The matching folding brake lever for these years is the B8206. Both are available in black and red; blue and gold are options only on the brake side.

Road Approval

The C7101 comes without a German ABE. Like the CRF150R, it is intended for motocross tracks and competition.
