DescriptionThe whole story▼
Roll off the throttle on a four-stroke at the top of a long descent and the engine helps hold the bike back. Do the same on the Beta RR 250 two-stroke and it keeps rolling almost freely, which is part of what makes the bike feel so light and eager, and also the reason the front brake carries a bigger share of the work whenever the trail points downhill. The B8206 from Accossato takes over from the stock front brake lever on the RR 250 two-stroke of 2013 to 2022: a three-finger lever machined from Ergal 7075, whose blade sits on a joint and may fold forward when the bike goes down on its right.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the Beta RR 250 two-stroke, 2013 to 2022
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock part
- Anti-break joint: the blade may fold forward when the bike falls
- Brake blade kept short, with room for three fingers
- Machined in Italy from a solid block of Ergal 7075
- Choice of black, blue, gold or red for the blade, base in a dark finish
- For off-road use; no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Engineers reach for Ergal 7075 when a part has to be strong without being heavy, and it is the alloy Accossato mills this lever from, beginning with a solid block and working on CNC machines in Italy. What the company says it is after is a balance of sturdiness, lightness and reliability. The B8206 is made in two sections: a dark base that mounts at the master cylinder and a coloured blade joined to it through the folding joint. It is the shorter of Accossato's off-road blades, meant for three fingers, which leaves the little finger and the thumb round the grip.
Little Engine Braking on the Way Down
On a long, rutted descent the difference becomes obvious. The two-stroke gives almost nothing back through the rear wheel once you close the throttle, so the rider steadies the bike with the rear brake and uses the front to set the speed for every rut and every turn. Three fingers work the lever almost without pause for the length of the hill, squeezing and easing as the surface changes from loam to loose stones to bare roots.
Most falls on a descent like that are small and sudden. The front wheel drops into a rut at a slight angle, rides up its wall and pushes; before a foot can go down, the Beta RR 250 two-stroke is lying on its side. When it goes to the right, the brake lever is one of the first things to meet the ground, often with the weight of the bike behind it. That is the load the B8206's joint is made for: the blade can swing forward and away rather than bend or break at the end. There is no certainty in it, yet a lever that survives means you finish the descent with a front brake, which on a steep hill is anything but a detail.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Beta RR 250 two-stroke of 2013 to 2022 is the machine Accossato names for the B8206, ten model years without a gap. A folding clutch lever for the same bike, the C7283, spans the same period, so the left side of the bar can be done as well. Should you want the two blades to match, black, blue and red are the colours both levers share; gold is only made for this one.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been issued for the B8206. Many RR 250 two-strokes wear number plates, but with this lever fitted the bike is not approved for public roads; the lever is meant for off-road riding and racing.
Scope of Delivery
One brake lever, B8206, consisting of the dark base and the coloured blade.
