DescriptionThe whole story▼

On a track day, the clutch lever of an RC8 R leads a quiet life. It is needed to leave the pit lane, for downshifts unless an auto-blipper handles them, and hardly at all once the bike is up to speed. The rest of the time the left hand holds the bar, braces the body under braking and helps steer. Accossato's ESM011 for the 1190 RC8 R of 2009 to 2016 has an adjustable reach, so it can sit where it is ready when needed and out of the way when not.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the KTM RC8 R, listed 2009 to 2016
  • Fits the original clutch mounting
  • Reach to the grip adjustable
  • Available in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver and green
  • Standard blade around 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
  • CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
  • Rigid blade, no folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

Like Accossato's other levers, the ESM011 is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodised in two tones. Its black hub takes the pivot and the reach adjustment, while the coloured blade is rigid, without a hinge anywhere in it, so its position relative to the hub never changes. On the RC8 R, where the clutch is used rarely but at critical moments, such as rolling out of the pit lane or a downshift into a slow corner, that fixed position means the lever is exactly where your fingers left it the last time they needed it.

The Lever You Hardly Use on Track

Under hard braking, the left arm takes some of the load of the body and the fingers close firmly around the grip. If the clutch lever sits too close, the fingers can catch it and pull it slightly, which disturbs the engine braking just when the bike should be at its most stable. If it sits too far away, reaching for it for a downshift means loosening your hold on the bar. The right position is a compromise: close enough that two fingers can take it without opening the hand wide, far enough that a firm grip on the bar leaves it untouched. One sensible approach on the RC8 R is to set it slightly further out than the brake lever and to use the short blade, which keeps two fingers on the clutch and the other two around the grip. Check the setting in your riding position with the bike on a paddock stand: tuck in, grip the bar as you would under braking and make sure the lever stays free, then pull it with two fingers and see that it still comes all the way in. When the clutch is needed, for the pit exit or a slow hairpin, it should feel natural rather than like a reach into the unknown.

Fitment and Compatibility

The ESM011 covers the RC8 R from 2009 to 2016 on Accossato's list and fits the factory clutch mounting. The EDF099 brake lever is listed for the same RC8 R years and matches it in hub and colours.

Road Approval

The ESM011 has no German ABE on record and is offered for use on closed circuits only.
