DescriptionThe whole story▼

Moto Guzzi's V7 III Racer dresses the air-cooled transverse V-twin of the V7 III in café racer clothes: clip-on bars and a riding position that tips you forward over the tank. Like every other member of the V7 III family, it stops with a single disc at the front. That keeps the front end light and the look uncluttered, but it also means the force of your fingers counts for a great deal. The Accossato EDF016 replaces the Racer's original brake lever for the 2017 to 2020 model years. It is CNC-machined aluminium, adjustable for reach and made in three blade lengths.

Key Features

  • Front brake lever for the Moto Guzzi V7 III Racer, 2017 to 2020
  • Works with the Racer's original master cylinder
  • Distance to the grip set by an adjuster near the pivot
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm, with short and long alternatives
  • Long blade for extra leverage in blue, gold, green or orange
  • Anodised aluminium with a black hub and a fixed one-piece blade
  • Packed in its own Accossato box

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF016 is not cast. It begins as a piece of aluminium that CNC cutters reduce, pass by pass, to the finished outline, so the blade is solid metal right through and its section does not vary from one lever to the next. Anodising then gives it two tones. The hub, housing the pivot and the reach mechanism, is black on every version; the blade carries whichever colour you order. There is no hinge between them, and the lever is rigid from end to end. Pressure from your fingers travels through a single rigid piece to the master cylinder, with no hinge pin in between that could bend or develop play.

One Disc, and the Leverage to Use It

With one disc doing the work up front, how hard the V7 III Racer can stop depends directly on how firmly you squeeze, and how firmly you can squeeze depends on where your fingers meet the lever. Simple mechanics helps here. The further from the pivot your fingers pull, the more force reaches the master cylinder for the same effort, which is why the long blade deserves a look on this bike: it gives the middle, ring and little fingers room well out along the blade and makes a firm stop feel like less work. It is made in blue, gold, green and orange. The riding position adds a second point. On clip-ons, your wrists angle downwards and part of your weight rests on your palms, so a blade set too far out forces the hand to shift before it can brake. Wind the adjuster in until the fingers find the lever while the palm stays on the grip. The standard blade keeps closest to the original feel, and the short one suits riders who brake with two fingers.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's catalogue carries the V7 III Racer under the name V7 750 Racer, and the EDF016 is listed for it from 2017 to 2020. The lever goes on the master cylinder Moto Guzzi fitted at the factory. On the left of the bar, the ESD037 clutch lever covers the same model years in the same colours, so the Racer's cockpit can be finished as a pair. The V7 generation that arrived in 2021 with a larger engine is not included.

Road Approval

This lever has no documented German ABE, so we sell it for use on the track.
