The RVS #1 is a motorcycle assembled out of things you are meant to look at: machined, wound, finished, photographed from every angle. This part is its opposite. The whole difference between the racing cloth and the ordinary one is five micrometres of aperture, 85 against 80, and there is no light, no angle and no pair of eyes that will ever show it to you. A part like that has to be bought on figures; nothing else about it is open to inspection.
Key Features
- Racing polyester, woven in a single layer and used dry for its entire life
- Threads from ø 22 microns, with the calibrated spacing between them doing the filtering
- 85 µm aperture, 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated flow
- Roughly twice the cloth area of other performance elements within the same outline
- A direct fit in the series airbox — no modification, no remap, nothing visible afterwards
- Washed instead of replaced, guaranteed for two years from purchase
A scale the eye cannot reach
Hold any woven element up to the light and it looks like a fine dark mesh. That impression is useless for choosing between two of them. The threads themselves start at twenty-two thousandths of a millimetre, the openings between them are measured in similar territory, and the five-micrometre step that separates these two cloths sits far beneath anything a person can resolve. The same goes for the load a used element carries: a weave can look grey and be working normally, or look presentable and hold a season of traffic dust. Appearance is not a strict method here; it is not a method at all.
What can be examined instead
Since the medium cannot be assessed by eye, assess the regime around it. How often will the airbox be opened — every few thousand kilometres, or once a year when something else is due? What sort of air does the machine breathe, swept circuit tarmac or the fine grey dust of summer traffic? How many hours a year run at the top of the rev range, where a throughput of 15,000 l/m²/sec is worth having? Those questions have answers an owner already knows. On an RVS #1 used the way most of them are used — sparingly, carefully, on the road — they point at the standard P08, and CM135S F1-85 becomes the right part only once the riding turns into track work with a short service schedule attached.
Care and cleaning
Nothing goes onto this element, ever. A line of compressed air held to the clean side and worked outward is the entire routine service, and it is quick enough that there is no excuse to skip it. Heavier deposits lift in warm water with a mild washing-up liquid; rinse until the water runs colourless. Then let it stand in air until it is dry right through — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, because polyester is what heat attacks first. It goes back into the airbox bare and dry. Downloads holds the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified for the MV Agusta RVS #1 of 2018 to 2026. The element is shared by eleven machines from MV Agusta's 675 and 800 triples, from the Brutale 675 and F3 675 to the Dragster RR, Rivale, Stradale, Superveloce and Turismo Veloce.
