DescriptionThe whole story▼

Part number ARX 0102 is what Öhlins supplies for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Extreme, model years 2023–2024. The unit it replaces was chosen when the Ténéré 700 Extreme was costed, not when it was developed.

Key Features

  • Adjustable compression damping via the gold click adjuster
  • Length 385 mm, set for this chassis
  • Adjustable rebound damping via an Allen-key adjuster above the lower eyelet
  • Spring rate 75 N/mm, set against this machine's weight
  • Gas-pressurised damper with a piggyback external reservoir
  • Remote hydraulic spring-preload adjuster on a flexible hose
  • Stroke: 105 mm
  • Ships with spring 00580-21

Why This Machine Needs It

At 700 cc the Ténéré 700 Extreme makes enough torque to load the rear hard on corner exit, and the damper has to keep the wheel in contact while that happens.

About the AR-X40 Range

Öhlins supplies the TTX GP with a hydraulic preload adjuster on most applications, so ride height changes take seconds. Two tubes, two pressurised circuits, and adjusters that meter flow directly rather than bleeding it — that is why a TTX responds cleanly to a single click where a monotube often needs three. TTX is Öhlins' twin-tube architecture, and it exists to solve one specific problem: cavitation.

Damping and Adjustment

105 mm is the stroke Öhlins specifies against the Ténéré 700 Extreme's ratio. Spring 00580-21 is what ships with the damper; harder and softer rates are available. The unit measures 385 mm installed, which is the dimension the Ténéré 700 Extreme's linkage expects. A 75 N/mm spring comes fitted, and it is the first thing to reconsider if the rider is heavy or light. Compression and rebound are adjusted independently, so support under load can be set without changing how fast the wheel returns. A single click produces a change most riders can detect, which is not true of every adjustable damper.

Construction and Material Quality

Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips. The eyelets carry spherical bearings rather than rubber bushes, so the damper is not fighting its own mounting. Gas pressure is set at the factory and holds through normal service intervals.

Fitment and Compatibility

Öhlins part number ARX 0102 is the correct number for the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Extreme as built 2023–2024. Öhlins lists no other machine against this number, so it is not a unit that can be adapted to a neighbouring model.

Road Approval

Road approval: unclear. There is no published German approval for this part on the Yamaha Ténéré 700 Extreme, and we would rather tell you that than imply one exists.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins components deliver what they promise once they are fitted and set up properly. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do exactly that in house — installation, service and setup. Simply ask if you would like us to take care of it.
