The Sensible Version
The S has the same engine and frame as the R with conventional suspension and a lower price. For road use it gives away remarkably little.
A Colour Screen
Fitted with the 2016 update, and legible in a way the previous instrument panel was not. Triumph moved early on dashboards.
A Monitored Solenoid
The purge valve's circuit is checked electrically. Unplugging it alone writes a fault into memory, so the circuit is completed rather than abandoned.
Luggage Frames
Pannier mounts compete for the same space on the touring models. Removing the assembly is often what makes the rest of an accessory list fit.
What the Vent Fitting Does
Admits air as fuel is used and holds petrol back when the motorcycle goes over. Both jobs matter and a cut hose does only the first.
Ethanol Blends Age It Faster
Modern pump fuel is harder on charcoal than the petrol the system was designed around, so canisters on older bikes are frequently spent long before the mileage suggests they should be.
A Common Misdiagnosis
Hard starting gets blamed on the battery, the plugs, the injectors and the fuel pump before anybody mentions the canister. By then the owner has usually spent more than the removal would have cost.
On a Bike That Tours
Filling to the brim at every stop is exactly what a rider crossing empty country does, and exactly what ruins a charcoal bed. The models with the largest tanks therefore suffer most, which is the opposite of convenient.
The Empty Bracket
Leaving it behind collects road grime and serves no purpose. Removing it takes two more bolts and makes the frame look finished.
