DescriptionThe whole story▼

Races for small four-strokes are short, close and decided in the slowest corners on the circuit. A rider on an Aprilia RS4 125 spends the whole distance within a bike length of somebody else, and the rear brake is part of how the machine is held steady while all that is going on. Accossato offers the AGPA221 rear pad, listed for this model from 2011 to 2020, in its ZXC ceramic racing compound, described by the company as a ceramic mixture made for competition.

Key Features

  • Rear pads for the Aprilia RS4 125 in the ceramic ZXC racing compound
  • Accossato's catalogue span for this pad runs from 2011 to 2020
  • For bikes used in club racing, junior events and regular track days
  • Also available in the organic mixture for road use
  • One box holds the two pads a caliper takes
  • Further rear pads for this model: the AGPA82 and the AGPA258
  • No German ABE available; competition and closed-course use

Construction and Material Quality

Ceramic compounds belong to the racing side of the Accossato programme, and ZXC is the name the company gives to its own. The claim attached to it is simply that it is a ceramic mixture suited to racing, which at the rear of an RS4 125 means a pedal that answers the same way in the last three laps as in the first three. The pad body uses the AGPA221 outline, shared with the road mixture in the same shape, so a machine can be moved between compounds for the racing season and back again without any other change at the caliper.

A Season of Short Races

Rear pads on a racing RS4 125 do not wear out quickly. What happens to them instead is everything else that happens to a race bike: a crash and a rebuild, a winter in a shed, a caliper that gets pressure-washed at the end of every meeting. Riders who look after their equipment work through the rear brake at the same intervals as the front, even when the pads look untouched, because a piston that has stopped moving freely will show up at the worst moment. Before the first meeting of the year, take the pads out, clean the caliper properly, check that the disc is unmarked and pump the pedal until it is solid. A rear brake that responds exactly as expected is what lets a rider hold a line on the last lap with somebody trying to get underneath them.

Fitment and Compatibility

The AGPA221 is listed by Accossato for the RS-4 125 with a span of 2011 to 2020, and the ZXC mixture uses that same shape. Two other rear pads, the AGPA82 and the AGPA258, are given for this model with their own year spans and different outlines, so make sure of what your caliper holds before ordering. Front pads in the range are the AGPA32 and the AGPA142.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE and no test certificate in our records for the AGPA221 in the ceramic mixture, and a racing pad of this kind is not intended for public roads in any case.

Scope of Delivery
