DescriptionThe whole story▼
Most enduro riders fit handguards early, and with good reason: they keep branches off the fingers and protect the levers from many knocks. They cannot protect them from everything. When a GasGas EC 250 falls hard onto its left side, the handguard often takes the first hit and bends, and the lever behind it still ends up in the ground. Accossato's C7283 adds a second line of defence: a folding clutch lever for the EC 250 from 2003 to 2015, machined from Ergal 7075 with a long blade for four fingers.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the GasGas EC 250 of 2003 to 2015
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount
- Accossato's anti-break system: a joint that lets the blade fold forward in a crash
- Long blade with space for four fingers
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075, produced in Italy
- Dark base; blade in black, blue, orange or red
- Delivered as a single lever
- No German ABE on record; for off-road riding
Construction and Material Quality
The joint is the heart of the C7283. It connects a dark base, which stays at the clutch pivot, with a blade in the colour you pick, and it lets that blade move forward under a heavy blow rather than resisting until it breaks. Both parts are machined in Italy on CNC equipment from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy Accossato chooses for its strength, with low weight and reliability as the other aims. As a clutch lever the blade is long, made for four fingers.
Behind the Handguard
Handguards come in two broad types. Open deflectors are plastic shields that stop wind, mud and branches; wrap-around guards have a metal backbone fixed to the bar end and the bar, forming a loop round the lever. The first type offers little protection in a crash, the second a lot, but even a wrap-around guard can bend inwards under a heavy impact or leave the tip of the lever exposed below it. Levers still break behind handguards, just less often.
A folding lever complements a guard rather than replacing it. If the guard bends and presses on the blade, or the lever strikes a rock beneath it, the C7283 lets the blade swing forward on its joint instead of breaking at the pivot or the tip. On the EC 250, whose clutch works hard in tight going, that can keep the ride alive. Before fitting, check that your handguard leaves the blade room to move through its full travel, both in normal use and when it folds. No crash comes with guarantees, only better or worse odds.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Spanish-built GasGas EC 250 of 2003 to 2015 is where Accossato lists the C7283, at the original clutch mount. For the EC 250 of 2018 and 2019 there is a different clutch lever, the C7284. The folding brake lever for this bike is the B8206, listed for 2003 to 2015 and again for 2018 and 2019. Blade colours differ slightly between the two: the clutch lever comes in black, blue, orange or red, the brake lever in black, blue, gold or red.
Road Approval
A German ABE for the C7283 is not documented. On an EC 250 registered for the road it is not approved for public roads; it is meant for off-road riding and competition.
