DescriptionThe whole story▼
Almost every rider remembers a hill start that went wrong: the engine dies, the bike rolls back a little, a boot scrabbles for grip on the tarmac. On a light and forgiving machine like the Suzuki GSX250R such moments pass quickly, and they become rarer once the clutch lever sits where the fingers can control it precisely. The Accossato ESS248 replaces the original clutch lever of the 2017 to 2020 GSX250R. It is machined from aluminium, anodised in a choice of seven blade colours, and its distance from the grip can be adjusted.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the GSX250R, listed 2017 to 2020
- Takes the place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance from the grip
- Three lengths; the standard blade measures approximately 138 mm
- Seven blade colours on a black anodised hub
- Milled from aluminium, rigid construction without a hinge
- Supplied in an Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
The ESS248 is a machined part: Accossato cuts it from aluminium on CNC equipment rather than casting it, which is why the surfaces are smooth and the edges even. It is then anodised, a treatment that builds a hard oxide layer out of the aluminium itself and locks the colour into it. The result is two-tone, with a black hub around the pivot and adjuster and a coloured blade. The blade is joined to the hub as one piece, so the take-up of the clutch feels the same on every pull, which helps while you are still learning where the friction point lies.
Pulling Away on a Slope
A clean uphill start uses three controls at once. The right foot holds the bike on the rear brake, the throttle opens a little further than it would on the flat, and the clutch comes out slowly until the engine note dips and the bike wants to move. That moment is the one to hold for a second before the foot lets go of the brake. Holding it takes a steady left hand, and steadiness comes more easily when the fingers are curled around the blade than when they are stretched to reach it. Set closer with the adjuster, the ESS248 lets smaller hands keep the friction point without strain. The long blade, offered in blue, gold, green and orange, reduces the effort of keeping the lever pulled in at a long red light on an incline, while the short one, made in the same four colours and in silver, suits riders who prefer two fingers on the clutch. Practise a few starts on a quiet slope after fitting, and the new position will soon feel natural on the GSX250R.
Fitment and Compatibility
In Accossato's list the ESS248 appears for the GSX-R 250 of 2017 to 2020, which is the catalogue's name for the GSX250R. It mounts at the original clutch mounting. The EDF014 brake lever is listed for the same model years, so both levers can be ordered in one colour; red and black are made only as standard levers, the other colours in more than one length.
Road Approval
For the ESS248 no German ABE is on record, so we supply it for track riding.
