DescriptionThe whole story▼
Winter is when many Kawasaki Z800E owners finally get round to the jobs they put off all summer. The bike stands in the garage, the evenings are long and there is time to do things properly. Fitting rearsets makes a good project for those weeks, provided it ends with a workshop visit rather than a hurried first outing in spring. Accossato's FT079 rearsets for the Z800E of 2013 to 2016, the Special Edition of 2016 included, set the footrests further back than the originals and keep the standard shift.

Construction and Material Quality
On the workbench, the FT079 is quick to understand. Accossato makes it from aluminium and keeps the design simple and functional. The surfaces your boots will meet, footpegs and lever tips, are knurled, and heel guards in aluminium sit alongside them. Accossato calls the rearsets adjustable, but the description stops there: it gives neither the method nor the number of positions. The kit is available all black or black with green details.
A Winter Project, Done in Order
Start with the paperwork. Find the torque values and the notes on thread lock for the footrests, gear linkage and brake pedal in Kawasaki's service manual for the Z800E, and keep them to hand for the workshop. Before anything comes off, photograph the original set-up from both sides, including the position of the gear lever relative to the peg and the height of the brake pedal. Those pictures are your reference when you compare the new position with the old.
Leave the fitting itself to a workshop, even if you are tempted to do it yourself. The mechanic will set the gear lever and brake pedal to suit your boots, check the free play at the brake and make sure the brake light comes on when the pedal is pressed. Keep the original parts, including the bolts, in a labelled box: they are the way back if you ever sell the bike or want to return it to standard.
When the bike comes home, put it on its stand and sit on it in full kit. Go through every movement you will make on track: shifting through the gears, covering the rear brake, pressing the knees into the tank, moving across the seat. Then treat the first session of the season as a gentle one while you get used to the new position.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FT079 for the Z 800 E of 2013 to 2016, with or without ABS, and for the Z 800 E Special Edition of 2016. The rearsets replace the rider's original footrests and controls, and the gearbox keeps its standard pattern.
Road Approval
No ABE or German parts certificate is documented for the FT079, so we supply it for track use rather than for the road.
