DescriptionThe whole story▼

Sand tracks are a special test for a 250 two-stroke. The ground soaks up power, the ruts deepen with every lap, and a GasGas MC 250 that drops out of its rev range in a sandy turn digs in rather than driving out. The rider keeps it alive with the clutch, slipping it out of every turn and over every set of bumps. Accossato's C7283 for the MC 250 of 2022 is machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy, folds on a joint and has a long blade that leaves room for four fingers.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the GasGas MC 250, model year 2022
  • Replaces the standard lever at the original clutch mount
  • Long blade shaped for four fingers
  • Anti-break joint (Accossato's term) lets the blade fold forward in a fall
  • CNC-milled in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
  • Dark base; blade in black, blue, orange or red
  • Single lever
  • No German ABE documented; for motocross use

Construction and Material Quality

Sand finds its way into every gap, the joint of a folding lever included, so a rinse after a sandy day is a sensible habit. The C7283 itself is a two-part lever: a dark base that stays at the clutch pivot and a blade in your colour, linked by the joint that lets it fold. Accossato machines both parts in Italy on CNC equipment from solid Ergal 7075, an aluminium alloy of high strength, with low weight and reliability as further aims. The blade is long, for four fingers, which suits the long, repeated slipping a sandy track calls for.

Keeping a Two-Stroke Alive in Sand

In deep sand everything takes more effort. The front wheel wanders, the rear digs, and the engine has to push against a surface that gives way. A two-stroke 250 has the power for it, but only within its range; below that, the bike bogs. So the rider keeps the revs up and uses the clutch almost as a second throttle, slipping it for a moment at the exit of every turn and whenever the rear digs too deep. By the end of the moto the left forearm is burning, and the lever has been worked far more than on hard ground.

Falls in sand are usually soft for the rider but not always for the bike. A front wheel that catches the edge of a rut throws the MC 250 onto its side, and the lever can dig into the sand at an angle with the bike's weight on top. Sand also hides old ruts and roots on some tracks. Under such loads the C7283's blade can fold forward on its joint instead of bending or breaking at the tip, which gives a better chance of riding on. Nothing makes a lever crash-proof, but this one is designed to give way in the right direction.

Fitment and Compatibility

Fitment of the C7283 is limited to the 2022 MC 250 from GasGas, where it replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount; no other model year of this bike is on the lever's list. Its partner for the front brake is the B8283 folding lever, also listed for 2022. Red is a blade colour of the clutch lever only, while the brake lever comes in black, blue and orange.

Road Approval

Without a German ABE, the C7283 is intended for motocross and other closed-course riding, which is where the MC 250 belongs.
