DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Mana 850 GT is a motorcycle without a clutch lever. Aprilia gave it an automatic transmission that can also be shifted manually through a set of fixed ratios, a storage compartment where other bikes carry their fuel tank and, in GT form, a fairing for longer trips. With no clutch to pull, the right hand does more of the work whenever the bike comes to rest. The Accossato EDF023 is a CNC-machined aluminium front brake lever for the Mana 850 GT, listed from 2009 to 2018, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Aprilia Mana 850 GT, listed 2009 to 2018
- Fits the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Reach to the grip adjustable on the lever
- Standard length of approximately 138 mm, made in all seven colours
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange or silver; long in blue, gold, green or orange
- Machined from solid aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Rigid one-piece blade, no folding joint
- No German ABE documented; sold for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato produces the EDF023 by CNC machining from a solid aluminium blank and then anodises it in two colours: black for the hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjuster, and your choice for the blade. The anodised layer is part of the metal, so it copes well with the daily use a Mana 850 GT tends to see. Between hub and tip there is no joint, and the whole blade moves as one.
Holding Still on an Automatic
On a manual motorcycle the left hand takes part in every stop: the clutch comes in and the bike rolls to a halt in neutral or with first gear held. On the Mana 850 GT, the transmission releases the drive by itself as the revs drop, and the brakes alone bring the bike to rest and keep it there. At traffic lights, in queues and on a slope, the front brake lever often does the holding while your feet find the ground, and it is the same lever you let go of as you roll the throttle open again.
That makes the lever's position more important than on a bike with a clutch. In town you may hold it for long stretches, and a blade set too far out keeps the fingers stretched the whole time. Bring it closer until the fingers rest on it with a relaxed curl, and waiting at a red light stops being an effort. For daily riding, the standard blade of about 138 mm stays closest to the original. The long blade, made in blue, gold, green and orange, gives the whole hand room for a gentle, steady squeeze, which suits touring with the GT loaded for a weekend away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the EDF023 for the Mana 850 GT from 2009 to 2018. It replaces the standard lever at the bike's original front master cylinder. The same lever appears in Accossato's list for other Aprilia twins of the period, among them the Shiver 750 and the Dorsoduro 750. Accossato names no clutch lever for the Mana, which is logical, since the bike does not have one.
Road Approval
This brake lever comes without documented German road approval (ABE) and is intended for the race track.
