DescriptionThe whole story▼

Most talk about rearsets revolves around footpegs and gear levers, yet one part works hard on every lap and rarely gets a mention: the plate beside your heel. On a Suzuki GSX-R1000 of the generation introduced in 2017, ridden hard on a circuit, the heels spend the whole session pressing, resting and sliding against it. Accossato's FT101 rearsets for the GSX-R1000 of 2017 to 2019 include aluminium heel guards alongside knurled pegs and lever tips, a footrest position further back than standard and a choice of standard or reversed shift.

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato makes the FT101 in aluminium, the heel guards included, and keeps the design simple and functional. The pegs and the tips of the levers are knurled to hold the boot. The maker describes the rearsets as adjustable, although it gives no details of the method or the number of positions. Versions: all black, or black with gold details.

What the Heel Plates Do

Their first job is protection. Near a rider's heels there are parts that move and parts that get hot: the chain and sprocket on one side, the rear wheel and the exhaust not far away. A boot heel that drifts inwards at speed can touch something it should not, and the plates put a solid barrier in between.

Their second job is support. When you hang off, the inside heel rests against the plate while the ball of the foot stays on the peg, and the outside foot often presses its heel or ankle against the other plate to hold the body in place. Under hard braking the heels push against them too. On the GSX-R1000, a fast superbike that invites big movements across the seat, plates in the right place make those movements feel more natural.

Over a season the heel guards collect scuffs and rubber marks from boots, which is normal. Clean them now and then so that you can spot a crack early, and check the fasteners after every few track days. Before the first session, sit on the bike on a paddock stand in full kit and see where your heels land.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FT101 for the GSX-R 1000 of 2017 to 2019; the earlier bikes of 2009 to 2016 have their own set, the FT062. The rearsets replace the rider's original footrests and controls. A workshop should carry out the fitting, adjust the gear and brake linkages, check the brake pedal's free play and the brake light and tighten every fastener to Suzuki's specification, with thread lock where it is prescribed.

Road Approval

No ABE or parts certificate has been documented for the FT101, so it is not approved for German roads and is sold for track use. A reversed shift pattern, if you choose it, belongs on the track too.
