What a filter medium costs is a property of the medium. What a filter medium is worth is a property of the engine breathing through it. Why this listing exists at all

Sprint Filter develops media by housing family. Once an airbox has a part number, every material that can be cut to that outline becomes a catalogue line, whether or not any owner of the machine would want it. That is how a racing element comes to be listed against nine Zontes models from 250 up to 350. It is a fact about manufacturing, not a recommendation about riding. The same cloth in the same outline carries the same multiple whether it feeds this 310 or a litre-class superbike — but only one of those two has anywhere to spend the flow.

The honest recommendation for a ZT 310-X

Unless this machine is raced, do not buy this element for it. Close to three times what the standard version costs in the same housing buys intake capacity that a 310 cannot draw, and it is paid for with a weave opened from 80 µm to 85. For everyday riding the P08 is the right specification. If the roads are dusty the answer is not more open but finer — the P14 nonwoven at 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec — which costs less again. None of the three makes a standard motorcycle quicker; they differ only in which end of the retention-and-flow trade they occupy.

Care and cleaning

Blow the element through with compressed air from the clean side outward, so the load departs by its entry route rather than being pressed deeper. Greasy build-up is a job for lukewarm water and mild detergent, rinsed until the water coming off is clean. The material then dries in circulating air at room temperature only, because heat of any kind destroys polyester long before anything looks damaged, and the SM277S F1-85 goes back in bone dry and bare.
