Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Honda NM4 Vultus (2014–2016) PM181S

The NM4 Vultus hides its mechanicals more completely than almost anything else Honda has sold. Bodywork runs from the nose to the tail in one continuous surface, and the 745 cc twin underneath it sits inside that enclosure rather than in the airstream. Enclosure changes the thermal picture: less air moving over the engine at low speed, and more heat held in the space around it. Filter media differ in how they respond to that, and the Sprint Filter P08 PM181S responds by not responding — a dry polyester weave has no oil film in it to thin, creep or carry anywhere when the airbox gets warm.

Why an oiled filter is the wrong answer under bodywork

Cotton-gauze elements work by holding dust in a tacky film, and that film is temperature-sensitive by design. On an open-framed motorcycle the consequences are usually modest. Inside a fully enclosed engine bay, where heat soaks rather than blows away, the same behaviour is less welcome — over-oiling has a well-known reputation for leaving deposits where they are not wanted. A dry element removes the mechanism entirely. There is nothing to apply, nothing to over-apply, and nothing to go anywhere it should not.

Three model years and the parts that follow them

The Vultus was built for a short time and in small numbers, which is a large part of why the ones still around are looked after. Short production runs are hard on consumables, though: dealers stock what sells, and what sold in three years does not stay on a shelf for a decade. The PM181S sidesteps that because it is not a consumable and because it is not an NM4 part — it is the element for the whole NC parallel-twin platform, five machines' worth of demand keeping one part number alive. Sprint Filter designs the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle, so for most owners the sourcing question is asked once.

Care and cleaning

Bodywork off, element out, compressor on: air from the clean side, worked outwards, and it can go straight back in dry. A deeper clean is lukewarm water with a mild detergent and a rinse continued until the water runs clear, followed by open air until it is dry through — never heat, never a flame.
