DescriptionThe whole story▼
The frame of an S1000RR is expensive, and replacing it after a standstill fall is avoidable. The STEBM208 is built from high-resistance material and finished to sit flush with the S1000RR bodywork. On the 999 cc S1000RR the kit replaces factory hardware rather than adding to it.
Key Features
- Shaped around the S1000RR so the silhouette of the bike survives the fitting
- The STEBM208 takes the contact so the S1000RR frame rail does not
- Bolts to the standard S1000RR fixing points — no drilling, no adapter plates
- No type-approval paperwork supplied with the STEBM208 — see the approval note below
- Anodised to LighTech's standard finish across the whole STEBM208
- Weight kept low where the STEBM208 hangs furthest from the S1000RR frame
The Design Brief
The S1000RR was styled without a protector in mind, which is the designer's problem to solve. LighTech's approach on the STEBM208 is to cut the protector down until it disappears into the line. The finish is chosen to survive the cleaning agents a S1000RR actually meets.
Construction
Precision machining is what lets the STEBM208 sit tight against the S1000RR frame. The finish is anodised rather than painted, so a scuff does not expose bare metal on the S1000RR. At 740 g the STEBM208 does not change how the S1000RR carries itself.
Fitment
Fitment is the BMW S1000RR, 2019 to 2026. Check the clearance to the surrounding bodywork once fitted and set it with the supplied spacers.
What Is in the Box
The STEBM208 comes as a machined kit with the fasteners the S1000RR needs. The packaging lists the STEBM208 reference, so a second order for the same S1000RR is unambiguous.
Fitting
Fitting the STEBM208 to a S1000RR is a hand-tool job on a cold engine. A 999 cc machine vibrates; check the STEBM208 fasteners again after the first few hundred kilometres. No colour decision is needed: the STEBM208 for the S1000RR exists in Black.
Road Approval
No approval documentation is included with the STEBM208. The decision on a road-legal S1000RR belongs to your inspection body. Settle that with your inspection body first. On track it is not an issue.
