DescriptionThe whole story▼

Load a Benelli 502C for a weekend and the rear brake stops being an afterthought. Bags over the seat, a passenger behind you, a wet descent towards the valley with the front brake already busy: that is when the back of the bike earns its keep. Accossato's Sintered (ST) version of the AGPA42 rear pad is built for those conditions and is listed for the 502C of 2019 as well as for the cruisers of 2023 and 2024.

Key Features

  • Rear pads in the Sintered (ST) compound for the Benelli 502C, article number AGPA42ST
  • Covers the 2019 machine and the model years 2023 and 2024
  • Accossato reports a steady grip level hot or cold, and grip on a wet disc
  • Aimed at riders who travel loaded or two up in any weather
  • One box, two pads, one caliper
  • The OR and ZXC materials use the same rear plate
  • AGPA112 is the matching front pad in Accossato's list
  • No German ABE documented; supplied for track and competition

Construction and Material Quality

Three materials are offered on this small rear plate and the sintered one is the all-weather choice among them. Accossato says its grip stays high and constant whether the pad is cold or has been working for a while, and that water does not spoil the effect. On a rear brake those two sentences describe something quite specific: a pedal that feels the same at the top of a wet hill as at the bottom of it. The pair of pads in the box fills one caliper, which is what a rear wheel normally carries.

Down a Wet Hill With Luggage

A loaded cruiser going downhill in the rain is a study in patience. Engine braking helps but cannot do it alone, the front is doing plenty already, and a rider who has carried luggage for a while will be feeding in the rear pedal gently and continuously to keep the whole machine settled. Grip at the back tyre is finite on a wet surface, so what is wanted from the pad is not ferocity but an honest, repeatable relationship between foot pressure and retardation.

Rain also brings grit up from the road onto the rear disc, where it grinds away at both surfaces, and spray from the back wheel coats everything behind the swinging arm. After a wet tour, look at the pads and at the face of the disc, and keep chain lubricant well away from it, since a greasy rear disc gives a soft pedal long before the material is worn out. Fresh pads want bedding in with a run of light applications.

Fitment and Compatibility

The rear entry for the 502C covers 2019 and then 2023 to 2024 in Accossato's data, with nothing recorded for the seasons in between, and we pass that on as it stands rather than filling the gap ourselves. One caliper at the back means one box in most cases; check the bike if you are unsure. Up front the same catalogue carries the AGPA112 pad for these years, and two other compounds are available on this rear plate for riders whose weather is kinder than this one assumes.

Road Approval

No ABE has been issued to us for the AGPA42ST and no examination papers accompany it. It therefore leaves our warehouse as a competition part, for circuits and closed events.

Scope of Delivery

Two Accossato AGPA42 rear pads in the Sintered (ST) compound, packed as one box for one caliper.
