DescriptionThe whole story▼
The 1199 Panigale R was the version Ducati built as the basis for its World Superbike racers, and owners of the bikes Accossato lists for 2014 and 2015 often treat them with a collector's care. Many still ride them hard on track days, but they keep every original part in a box so the bike can be returned to standard. Accossato's FC105 suits that way of thinking. This quick-release fuel tank cap is machined entirely from aluminium, fits in place of the stock cap, and comes with a quick-closing pawl in a choice of six pin colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati 1199 Panigale R, 2014 and 2015
- CNC-machined from aluminium throughout
- Quick-closing pawl for opening and closing the filler quickly
- Pin colours: red, black, silver, gold, blue, green
- Replacement pawl sold on its own
- The stock cap can be kept and refitted at any time
- Check fitment with Accossato's application list
- No German ABE documented, for the circuit
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato does not cast the FC105; it machines the whole cap from aluminium on CNC equipment, which the company says makes it robust and durable. The design is new rather than a copy of the Ducati part. At its heart sits a quick-closing pawl, the mechanism that lets you open and close the tank without fuss, and this pawl is where the colour comes in: the pin is available in six finishes, while the body is not described as coloured. Should the pawl be damaged, it can be bought separately as a spare part.
A Box for the Original Parts
Collectors of limited Ducati superbikes share a habit that makes sense for any rare machine: nothing original is thrown away. Mirrors, number-plate holder, indicators and filler cap go into a labelled box, often with a note of the date they came off and the bolts that held them. When the 1199 Panigale R changes hands one day, a buyer who finds the complete box will value the bike more, and it can be put back to standard in an afternoon. A quick-release cap fits this approach well, because it is a change you can undo without leaving a trace. Keep the original cap in that box as well, and store the box somewhere dry. Before the swap, let the engine cool completely, clean the filler area of dust, and check that the seal of whichever cap you fit sits flat all the way round. A short look for fuel at the edge of the cap after the first fill tells you whether it has seated properly.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the 1199 Panigale R of 2014 and 2015 for the FC105. For the R of 2016 and 2017 the list points to a different cap, the FC135, so check the model year on your papers before choosing. The FC105 is also listed with us for the 1199 Panigale S, the Panigale V4 and the Panigale V2 955. On the 1199 Panigale R it replaces the original filler cap; confirm the match on the application list before you order.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no expert report are documented for the FC105, which is intended for circuit use only. The bike's own cap can normally be locked, and for public roads it is the one to keep on the tank.
