DescriptionThe whole story▼
By midsummer many motocross tracks have baked hard. The water truck cannot keep up, a film of dust settles on a base almost as firm as a car park, and grip becomes something you have to search for rather than assume. On a Yamaha YZ250, the 250 two-stroke Yamaha kept building after the other Japanese factories had turned to four-strokes, those conditions are won or lost at the front brake. For this bike Accossato makes the B8265, a replacement front brake lever for the 2015 to 2022 models, milled from Ergal 7075 and hinged so the blade can fold forward in a fall.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Yamaha YZ250, model years 2015 to 2022
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Anti-break joint: the blade can swing forward in a crash instead of snapping
- Short blade, three-finger layout as specified by Accossato
- CNC-machined in Italy from a solid billet of Ergal 7075
- Black, blue or green blade over a dark base
- No German ABE on record; for motocross and closed off-road terrain
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the B8265 out of a solid piece of Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy. The alloy sits at the high-strength end of the aluminium family, and the company picked it for the balance it wants in an off-road lever: plenty of strength, little weight and dependable service. Two machined parts make up the lever. A base in a dark finish locates on the master cylinder pivot and carries the joint; the blade that meets your fingers is black, blue or green and hinges from that joint. Accossato keeps it short, with room for three fingers.
Braking on Hard-Pack
Hard-pack punishes a heavy hand. When the surface is dry and polished, the front tyre can go from gripping to sliding with very little warning, and because a two-stroke offers only mild engine braking when the throttle closes, the front brake has to do most of the slowing. Riders who are quick in these conditions brake while the bike is still upright and pointing straight, build the pressure progressively instead of grabbing, and let the lever out smoothly before they tip into the turn. Looking for the darker lines where other tyres have left rubber helps as well, since those strips often hold more grip than the dust beside them.
Even so, front-end crashes are part of every dry, hard track. The tyre lets go, the YZ250 drops onto its right side and slides across ground that is barely softer than asphalt, and a solid lever that digs in at its tip will often break off there. The joint on the B8265 gives the blade a way out: it can swing forward instead of taking the full blow. That will not happen in every slide, but when it does, you lift the bike, kick the engine back into life and finish the moto with a front brake that still works. On a dry day, that can be the difference between a result and a long walk back to the van.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8265 is listed by Accossato for the Yamaha YZ250 built from 2015 to 2022. It goes onto the bike's own front brake master cylinder in place of the lever Yamaha fitted at the factory; earlier YZ250s are not part of this listing. For the clutch side of the same bikes there is the folding C7266, available in black or blue, so those two colours give you a matching pair, while green is reserved for the brake lever.
Road Approval
Accossato documents no German ABE for the B8265. The lever is sold for motocross tracks and closed off-road terrain.
