A touring machine spends more of its life close to its limits than anything else built on this engine: two people, luggage, a screen, sustained speed and summer heat, often several at once. Margins a light bike never notices are already spent here. Fitting the finest medium in the programme puts one more claim on the same account, deliberately — and it is worth being plain that this is what the decision is. Not an upgrade, but a restriction accepted in return for something specific.
Key Features
- Dry nonwoven rated at 7 microns, the finest filtration Sprint Filter catalogues
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec; the standard woven element for this airbox is rated 5,050
- Runs dry for its whole life: no oiling when new, none after cleaning
- Replaces the factory panel in the unaltered airbox, with no adapter, no trimming, no remap
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of a conventional performance element
- Cleaned with compressed air and refitted, warranted for two years from purchase
One more claim on the same margin
The flow figure is where the account is settled: 560 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard weave, a factor of nine. That reduction applies to every kilometre — the loaded motorway stage, the pass in July, the ride home — while the retention it buys is collected only where the air is genuinely loaded. For a Multistrada V2 covering distance on sealed roads that is the wrong side of the bargain, and the standard element is the honest recommendation. The case turns when unsealed surfaces are part of the plan rather than an occasional diversion.
What is and is not on offer
Finer stops more and passes less. Both halves are true together, which is why no medium here can be called the better one; they are drawn for different air. And none of them adds power. An element dropped into an unmodified airbox leaves a standard Multistrada V2 exactly as strong as it was, since the intake was developed and homologated with a filter in the middle of it. What is actually bought is a mat that is washed and put back rather than replaced, holding an intake resistance that can be restored on demand instead of one that only ever rises until a replacement is ordered.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean face of the PM279T12, worked outwards, sends the collected load back out the way it came instead of deeper into the fibres. Where wet stages have bound it in place, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will release it; rinse until the run-off is clear. Drying is the step that has to be respected: circulating air at room temperature only, and no radiator, heat gun or flame at any point, since heat ruins the material long before it looks damaged. It goes back dry. Downloads holds the maintenance sheet.
Fitment & Compatibility
