Nothing has to be re-oiled afterwards, and no fresh film sits upstream of the throttle body waiting to travel. A paper cartridge cannot be treated that way at all — once it has been properly wet it swells and does not come back, so on a machine whose filter regularly carries moisture the medium decides whether cleaning is even on the table. Finer means more retention and less flow, in that order and always — a trade rather than a ranking.
