Almost nothing in the intake of a Meteor 350 is up to its owner. The airbox volume, the length of the duct, the throttle body and the fuelling map were all settled before the motorcycle left the factory, and all of them stay as they are. One item in that path is deliberately removable, and it is the filter. Choosing the CM231P14 over the standard woven element is therefore not shopping in the ordinary sense. It is the single specification decision the owner of a standard machine actually gets to make about how the engine is fed.
Key Features
- Special non-woven fabric, used dry, rated at 14 microns and 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Chosen by specification rather than by feel, since both figures are published
- Never oiled, so no dosing is required and nothing can travel forward onto a sensor
- Around twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, in the unmodified airbox
- Drops into the housing the paper panel came out of, with no remap and no alteration
- Serviced with compressed air, kept for the life of the bike, warranted for two years
A decision, not an upgrade
Media in the Sprint Filter range are labelled by situation. This one is put down for dust, daily use and distance, while the woven element in the same box is described for road and track. Those are not rungs on a ladder with a best one at the top. They mark where each fabric earns its keep, and a label that fits somebody else's roads is worth nothing on yours. Read as situations, the range asks a question about your riding instead of offering a rank.
What is being traded away
The finer rating costs air. At 1,800 l/m²/sec against the 5,050 of the woven medium, this fabric passes roughly a third as much per square metre. On a road-ridden 350 single that is a manageable loss, but it is a loss, and it ought to be spent for a reason. The reason is dust and nothing else: a drop-in filter does not make a standard 350 single noticeably stronger, and no filter medium has ever done so.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, from the clean side outwards, restores the CM231P14 in ordinary service. If oil mist from the breather has left a film, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until clear. After that it dries in air alone: no radiator, no hairdryer, no flame, and no refitting until it is dry right through. Nothing is oiled before it goes back. The maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
