Very little on the road rides as low as an MSX125. Twelve-inch wheels, a short frame, no bodywork worth the name, and an airbox closer to the tarmac than almost anything else in the same traffic. Air is not the same at every height above a road: what tyres have just lifted is densest near the ground and thins as it rises, so a small machine takes in a mixture that a tall adventure bike, drawing from above its wheels, never meets in the same concentration. The Sprint Filter P14 PM180P14 is made for that mixture — a dry non-woven medium filtering at 14 microns, catalogued as the choice for dusty conditions.
Key Features
- Non-woven filtering mat, dry in service, with no oil film to reach the sensors
- 14 microns of filtration at a rated 1,800 litres per square metre per second
- Filtration happens across roughly twice the area a typical performance element offers
- Takes the place of the paper element in the series airbox; box and mapping stay as they are
- Cleanable and reusable, which turns a consumable into a fitting
- The guarantee runs for two years, starting the day it is bought
The lowest layer of the air column
Filtering past stopped traffic happens on the inside line, the strip of a lane nothing sweeps and everything collects in: grit, sand, dried mud from a gateway, the powder brakes and tyres leave behind. A car draws its air from bonnet height through a long duct; this airbox has no such luxury, and the wheel ahead is small enough that what it lifts is still on its way down as the intake passes. None of it can be felt — a motorcycle gives no signal that it is swallowing fines. It simply means the air reaching the element on a machine this low is dirtier at the small end than the road suggests.
Finer is a different filter, not a better one
The media sort themselves by one relationship: the tighter the medium, the more it holds and the less it flows. The P08 sits at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second, the P037 at 37 and 4,500, this P14 at 14 and 1,800, the T12 at 7 and 560. That is a choice of air, not a ranking. The P14 is bought by giving up flow a licence-class 125 was never able to use, and paid for again in attention: a medium this fine gathers its load sooner than a coarse weave, so inspections want to be more frequent. On a disposable element that would mean buying more of them; here it costs minutes.
Care and cleaning
No oil is involved at any stage. The normal service is compressed air on the clean side, pushing the dust back out the way it came in. After a dirty spell, wash it in lukewarm water with mild detergent and rinse until it runs clear. Let it dry in open air on its own; heat guns, hairdryers and flames destroy the medium. The PM180P14 goes back in dry, never damp. The maintenance leaflet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda MSX125 of 2013 to 2019. The identical element covers the Grom of 2014 to 2019, the same motorcycle under Honda's other name, which is why two machines appear against one airbox. The list is in the Fitment tab.
