The standard element for this airbox is listed against two motorcycles: the Monster 937 and, from 2024, the Scrambler 800. The racing weave is listed against one. Nothing in the hardware explains that — the housing does not change between the two bikes, and a cloth that flows 15,000 l/m²/sec in a Monster would flow the same in a Scrambler. What the catalogue is recording is not an engineering boundary but an expectation about who asks for what. PM207S F1-85 is that entry, and it is worth reading as the statement it is.
Key Features
- Dry polyester racing weave, rated 85 µm and 15,000 l/m²/sec — the highest flow figure Sprint Filter lists
- Measured retention of 95.22 % on 100-micron particles against 93.13 % for the standard P08
- No oil at any point, so it is cleaned and refitted immediately with no curing time
- Sits in the series airbox in the standard element's place: no modification, no remapping
- Around double the filtering surface of an ordinary performance filter
- Maintained rather than replaced, and covered for two years from the purchase date
What a catalogue entry does and does not prove
A listing tells you a part has been made and dimensioned for a housing. It does not tell you the part suits your riding, and an absent listing does not mean a machine is unworthy of one. Read the other way round, the same point protects the buyer here: the Monster appearing on this line is not a recommendation from Ducati or from Sprint Filter that a road Monster needs a racing weave. It means the part exists for this box. Whether it belongs in yours is a separate question with a separate answer.
The separate question
Rated flow only becomes useful where an engine is held near the top of its range long enough to want it. A naked roadster on public roads is rarely in that state, and this element will not change what it does when it is not — an element in an unmodified airbox leaves a standard Monster 937 exactly as strong as Ducati homologated it. The weave is also coarser than the standard panel at 85 µm against 80, though it measures higher retention in the same test; mesh and measured retention are different quantities and should not be read as one scale. For track use with cleaning between sessions, this is a sound choice. For everything else, the standard medium is the honest one.
Care and cleaning
Clean it with compressed air applied to the clean side and directed outward, so the deposit exits the way it entered. Where a film resists air, warm water with a mild detergent removes it, rinsed until the run-off is colourless. Drying is by moving air at ambient temperature only — heat guns, radiators and flames destroy polyester and give no visible warning that they have. The element goes back dry, with nothing sprayed or brushed onto it. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is attached under the Downloads tab.
