Ask what finishes off a washable air filter and the obvious answer, dust, turns out to be the wrong one. Dust is the job, and a season of it is one cleaning away from gone. What really ends these elements is a hot air gun held too close, a radiator pressed into service to hurry the drying, a frame distorted by a thumb in the wrong place, or a sealing lip nicked on the edge of the box during refitting. All four happen inside the twenty minutes of maintenance, not in the thousands of kilometres between them. Sprint Filter specifies the CM265S to last as long as the Super Meteor 650 does, and that is a promise written on the assumption that nobody hurries it.
Key Features
- Dry polyester weave, single layer, 80 µm filtration at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance elements, in the standard airbox
- Never treated with oil, which removes the dosing question and the risk of migration together
- A straight swap for the factory panel: intake tract, airbox and fuelling stay exactly as delivered
- 93.13 % of 100-micron particles retained in Sprint Filter's measurement, against 76.42 % for oiled cotton
- Regenerated with compressed air, with two years of warranty from the date of purchase
The failure modes that never get printed
Heat comes first, and it is the only instruction in the whole procedure with no tolerance in it at all. The medium is a plastic, and the temperature that harms it arrives well before anything looks scorched, which is why a hairdryer feels reasonable and is not. Handling comes second. The frame carries the sealing face, and the sealing face is what makes the 80 µm rating mean anything: air that slips past the edge has not been filtered at all, no matter how good the cloth is. Storage is third, and the quietest. An element left loose on a shelf between seasons collects damage it would never have met inside the motorcycle.
What the twenty minutes buy
Not power. A drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and the Super Meteor is no exception to that. What the routine buys is a recurring purchase turned into a recurring hour: the airbox line on the service schedule stops consuming a part and starts consuming attention instead. That is a real exchange rather than a free one, and it is the honest way to describe a filter designed for the life of the machine.
Care and cleaning
Air first, from the clean side outwards, until the weave looks even again. Water only when the deposit is greasy rather than dry, at hand temperature and with a mild detergent, then rinsed clear. Then the part of the job that decides how long the CM265S lasts: drying in open air alone, with nothing warm anywhere near it, and refitting only once it is dry through. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, 2023 to 2026 and the earliest of the three machines on this number. The Shotgun 650 from 2024 and the Classic 650 from 2025 take the same element. Your year is worth checking in the Fitment tab.
