DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 011 keeps a 990 Duke running once the sidestand and its switch have been removed.
Key Features
- KTM 990 Duke (2024–2026)
- Closes the sidestand safety loop
- No warning on the display
- Fits the original plug
- Nothing cut, nothing spliced
- Standard switch refits at any time
The Loop
KTM wires the stand into the same chain as the clutch and the gear position sensor. Break it and the engine will not run with a gear engaged.
A Recent Motorcycle
The 990 Duke replaced the 890 with a larger version of the LC8c twin and a longer swingarm. It is new enough that the aftermarket is still filling in.
Nine Hundred and Forty-Seven Cubic Centimetres
Despite the badge. KTM has never let model names correspond to displacement and the 990 continues the tradition without apology.
Why the Stand Goes
Track preparation. A stand is weight, it fouls at lean and a scrutineer would rather not see one, so it leaves early in the process.
What Happens Then
The chain reads as broken and the engine cuts in gear. Nothing else on the preparation list can be verified until it is closed.
Closed Rather Than Bridged
The unit presents the state the controller expects. A wire across the terminals produces a different fault instead of no fault.
Under Warranty
Most 990 Dukes are still in their first ownership. A part that plugs into the original connector and removes without trace is the only sensible approach.
Five Minutes
One connector near the swingarm pivot, no bodywork removal and nothing to reset afterwards.
Reversible
The standard switch refits with the stand and nothing is consumed in either direction.
Keep It on the Road
If the stand is still fitted, the loop should be connected. There is no benefit to removing it from a registered motorcycle.
An Aftermarket Still Forming
The 990 is recent enough that parts availability is thin compared with the 890 it replaced. Owners preparing one for track use are often waiting on components, which makes the items that do exist worth fitting properly rather than improvising around.
