DescriptionThe whole story▼

On a loaded adventure bike the rear brake stops being a helper and becomes part of the braking system proper. Going down a long pass with panniers and a full tank, a Tuareg 660 has a lot of momentum to shed, and the pedal carries a share of it into every bend. Accossato's Sintered compound is built to keep its grip level constant from cold to hot and to work on a wet disc, and this article puts it on the AGPP91 rear pad for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 of 2022 to 2025.

Key Features

  • Rear pads for the Aprilia Tuareg 660, 2022 to 2025
  • Sintered (ST) compound, ordered separately from the other mixes
  • Accossato's description: constant grip hot or cold, dependable on a wet disc
  • Box of two pads for the single rear caliper
  • Front axle of the same bike: Accossato AGPA92
  • Two other compounds are available on this carrier
  • Accossato lists no disc for the Tuareg 660
  • No German ABE or test mark documented; competition and track use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato attaches one promise to the ST compound and it is about steadiness: the grip level stays high at both ends of the temperature range and survives a wet disc. The rear brake of a loaded bike tests that properly, because it is used in a way that swings between extremes. A long alpine descent keeps it warm for half an hour, and the same brake is stone cold at the first junction next morning. What the rider wants is a pedal that means the same thing in both situations.

Down a Pass with Panniers

A heavy bike going downhill teaches the value of a plan. The gear is chosen at the top so the engine holds most of the speed, the front brake does the firm work between bends, and the rear settles the machine and takes the edge off without asking the front tyre for more than it has. Ridden like that, a Tuareg 660 can cover a long descent with the brakes still feeling the same at the bottom as at the top.

What ruins the plan is dragging. A foot resting on the pedal all the way down holds the pads against the disc, puts heat where nobody wanted it and wears the material away quickly. Take the foot off between applications, stop somewhere with a view for a few minutes if the road is very long, and check the rear pads at the end of a mountain trip. They will have done more work in that one week than in the whole of the rest of the year.

Fitment and Compatibility

For the rear axle of the Tuareg 660 from 2022 to 2025, Accossato lists this one pad and nothing else. One box covers the single caliper. At the front the AGPA92 does the corresponding job in whichever compound suits the rider, and since Accossato holds no disc for this Aprilia, the discs fitted at the factory stay in place.

Road Approval

There is no ABE for this pad in our files, and no test mark, so we supply it for competition and track use.

Scope of Delivery

Two Sintered (ST) pads in a box, the set for the rear caliper.
