DescriptionThe whole story▼

The BMW K 1600 Grand America is a six-cylinder touring bike with a top case, panniers and room for two, and when it is fully loaded its front brakes have a great deal of motorcycle to stop. For its front wheel Accossato lists the DK007 from 2018 to 2020, a steel disc made as a single fixed piece, which the Italian company says is interchangeable with the original.

Key Features

  • Fixed steel front disc for the BMW K 1600 Grand America, 2018 to 2020
  • 320 mm outer diameter, 181 mm inner diameter, 5 mm thickness
  • Made in one piece
  • Interchangeable with the original disc
  • Minimum thickness printed on the disc
  • One disc per order; the Grand America has two at the front
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The DK007 is a single piece of steel measuring 320 mm across and 5 mm thick, with an inner diameter of 181 mm. Accossato designs it to fit where the original disc was. The company says its raw materials are carefully selected and that the knowledge behind the disc comes from racing.

Two People, Full Cases

A touring bike with a passenger, a full top case and packed panniers carries far more mass than with its rider alone, and every extra kilogram has to be slowed by the brakes. On a K 1600 Grand America, most of that load falls on the front discs, especially on long descents and in dense traffic. Riders who tour two-up learn to brake earlier and more smoothly, both for the sake of the discs and for the passenger, who cannot see what is coming. A smooth, progressive squeeze lets the passenger brace, keeps the bike level and feeds heat into the discs gradually. Before a long tour, check both front discs for thickness and scoring, and do not set off on discs close to their printed minimum. A heavy bike also works its wheel bearings and tyres hard, so look at those while the wheel is out. And if the front brake starts to feel different on a long trip, stop and look rather than carry on.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's application list gives the K 1600 Grand America of 2018 to 2020 for this disc. It takes the place of one original front disc, and as the Grand America stops with two, both sides together need two discs; the price is per disc. Before fitting, compare the new disc's diameter and thickness with the one you are removing.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no type approval are documented for the DK007. It is offered for track use.

Scope of Delivery
