DescriptionThe whole story▼
Kawasaki's 636 is the supersport that never left, and it spends more of its life on circuits than most of its rivals. The N004 is ZCOO's shape for its Nissin monobloc caliper, and with a 55.3 mm friction height it is the tallest pad in the entire Nissin series - a large contact face on a machine light enough that the front tyre, not the brake, is usually the limit.
Key Features
- 55.3 mm friction height over a 75.0 mm length, 8.0 mm thick - the tallest of ZCOO's Nissin references
- Ceramic-sintered EX Race compound with a linear force curve, so trail-braking stays controllable
- Fade-free operation past 600 degrees Celsius through a full session of late braking
- Four-block friction face spreads load evenly over the tall pad and vents heat between the blocks
- Forms a ceramic film on the rotor rather than abrading it, unlike a conventional race sinter
- One pack covers one caliper; the ZX-6R runs two front discs, so a full change needs two packs
Construction and Material Quality
The construction is ZCOO's standard racing build: ceramic friction material sintered onto a laser-cut metal plate, joined with the bonding process Okada Corporation developed to stop the layer detaching when hot. On the N004 the height of the face means the pad sees a significant temperature gradient from the top edge to the bottom, which is exactly why the plate is cut from a stiff alloy rather than mild steel - a plate that distorts turns that gradient into uneven wear.
Performance and Feel
The EX Race compound is ZCOO's sprint-race mixture, and a 636 on a trackday is its intended habitat. Its defining property is that braking force follows lever pressure almost linearly - the rider decides how much deceleration to apply rather than negotiating with the pad. That matters most in the phase where the brake is being released and the bike is going to full lean, where a pad with a non-linear release makes the front feel like it is letting go in steps.
Fitment and Compatibility
Listed by ZCOO for the Kawasaki ZX-6R 636 Ninja, with and without ABS, from 2013 through 2025 and 2026 respectively. The same N004 shape also covers the Honda CB1100 and CB1100EX. Front axle only.
Road Approval
No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
