Reading conditions instead of categories

The evidence is on the bike after a ride. A fine grey film on tank and screen at the end of a dry week, a rim of dust in the bodywork recesses, visibility dropping behind the vehicle ahead on an unsealed road: that is the air the intake is drinking, and it beats any category printed on a spec sheet. Riders whose evidence looks like that are the ones this mat was made for. Riders whose bikes come home clean have their answer too, and it is the standard weave.

The exchange, stated once

560 l/m²/sec here against 5,050 for the 80-micron road cloth, in return for a filtration limit of 7 microns instead of 80. More is stopped, less is passed, and the two move together on one lever, so neither medium outranks the other and both are right somewhere. What holds for both needs saying as well: neither makes a standard SRT 700 noticeably stronger. Airbox, throttle bodies and calibration set what the engine does, and a change of cloth in the middle of that chain does not revise them.

Care and cleaning

Begin with air on the clean face, moved slowly so the mat releases what it holds instead of taking it deeper. Should a film survive that, hand-warm water with a small amount of mild detergent and a patient rinse will clear it. Drying is done in moving air alone, since heat destroys the material where dust merely loads it, so nothing warm goes near it at any stage.
